February 21, 2010: District Championships Planning Meeting
December 5, 2009 - Message from Larry Miller CT AAU Club Directors,
In a national Girls Basketball Committee teleconference on Thursday, Dec 3, several changes were announced and voting resulted in additional changes primarily to AAU Nationals.
Leadership changes:
National Chair Carroll Graham from Oklahoma has resigned (will be officially accepted at the next convention) and national president Bobby Dodd has stepped in as acting Chair with Boo Williams (VA) and Matt Williams (NV) serving as Assistant Chairs (both of these gentlemen run major events in their area). AAU Nationals:
AAU is changing its philosophy of separate national sites for each age and each division (I,II.III). They are following the trend of hosts holding their events in a single facility. In the future divisions I,II &III will be held in the same location with the same dates.
This is actually the best change to come out of the committee in years. This will allow you to decide now to attend a particular national in July and get the best prices on air and hotels. The level at which you participate in will be based to some extent on your placement in the qualifier but significantly on the level you are competitive in.
Currently, ages 14 through 16 (grades 9-11) for divisions I,II,III will be held in Orlando. Other locations for the younger ages were selected from the list of existing bid cities that had facilities large enough to host all divisions in one or two facilities. These include Nashville, Rochester (MN), Cincinnati and others. The actual schedule will be posted at aaugirlsbasketball.org in a week or so.
Rules changes include
6 minute warm-ups
4 minute half time
Ages up through 13 will play quarters instead of NCAA halves
An initiative to delete the 30 sec shot clock for the younger ages was defeated although it will be back on the agenda at the convention next fall.
Fees will be discounted by $100 if you register prior to April 15
