Message from the Governor

The past few weeks have been extraordinarily busy for us. Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball Division II completed their District Championships this past weekend. We are looking forward to the Gymnastics District Championships this weekend in Tolland and the Boys Basketball Division I the weekend of the 16th. In addition, we also celebrated a number of athletes and volunteers at the Annual Awards and Scholarship Dinner. With over 150 attendees, it is most successful dinner yet!

Lastly, we have been putting the final touches on the Northeast Regional Tournament. Check out below for all the details!

2009 Annual Awards & Scholarship Dinner

Members of the Connecticut AAU gathered at Cascades Banquet Facility in Hamden on Sunday, May 3rd, to celebrate the many accomplishments of its athletes and volunteers. The festive event acknowledged the achievement of athletes in the sports of Baseball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Gymnastics, Karate and Track & Field. Emceed by the Connecticut Governor of the AAU, Jack Bethke, awards and scholarships were awarded to almost 50 recipients. The keynote address was delivered by Greg Herenda, Men's Basketball coach at UMass - Lowell.

Coach Herenda neatly summarized the themes of the event which focused on commitment, perseverance and achievement. Noting the number of families in attendance, Mr. Herenda remarked the vibe in the room was one of love and respect, where the attendees truly knew each other.

Girls Basketball District Championships

The District Championships wrapped up this weekend in New Haven. To see a complete listing of medalists and all of the final bracket information, click here. Congratulations to all our teams for putting forth their best effort!

Boys Basketball District Championships

The Boys District Championships got underway this past weekend in Hartford with the Division II competing. The Division Championship will be 5/16 & 5/17. We wish the best of luck to everyone competing in this event.

Gymnastics District Championship

The District Championships will take place on May 9th in Tolland. Contact Linda Brown for additional information.
